2nd Day
Breakfast at the hotel.
Morning dedicated to the visit of Lisbon, the city of blue sky, mild weather and narrow medieval streets where, sometimes, happens to hear the melancholic notes of a guitar that waves a Fado. Beginning at Belém quarters to admire S. Vicente de Belém Tower (the city’s symbol), the Padrão (monument to the Discoveries) and the Jerónimos Monastery, prime example of the singular portuguese architectural Manueline style. Stop at the Antiga Fábrica de Pasteis de Belém to taste the most famous amongst local pastry and proceed to S. Pedro de Alcântara Garden (magnificent view over S. Jorge Castle). Promenade through the typical quarters Bairro Alto and Chiado: coffee stop at the A Brasileira, coffee shop once often visited by the renowned portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa, immortalized with a statue by its entrance. Arrival at Rossio Square to explore the hidden narrow streets around the elegant avenues of the Pombaline downtown. Continuation through the monumental Comércio Square (departing point of the typical ferryboats), to the Cathedral. Stop at Santo António Church (where the saint was born) and promenade down along the alleyways and small squares of the characteristic Alfama quarters. Return to the hotel (free lunch). Afternoon at disposal for individual activities. We suggest visit museums or a ride in the famous 28 (electric tram, line nº 28), passing through the narrow streets of the old town (free dinner). Overnight at the hotel.
